Abstract

This paper reviews studies of photodynamic therapy for the treatment of lung cancer in Japan, earned out since 1978. Photodynamic therapy has been applied clinically to both early and advanced stages of lung cancer and in combination with surgery. It can preserve pulmonary function, is well tolerated and is cost-effective in comparison with other treatments.
