2021, Clinical Microbiology and InfectionCitation Excerpt :In the absence of test comparison against a reference standard assay, the reported positive and negative percentage agreement in identified clinical studies or manufacturer performance data were not reported to avoid any misinterpretation. A nonexhaustive list of representative commercially available FDA- or CE-approved RDTs is provided in Table 1 [4–39]. Of note, all assays discussed in this review are qualitative assays.
Pneumococcal Disease in the Era of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine
2015, Infectious Disease Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :In one study, 51% of healthy children tested positive43 in the absence of any clinical manifestations of pneumonia or bacteremia, presumably because of nasopharyngeal colonization only. The same test when used on CSF samples was 100% sensitive for identification of S pneumoniae in pyogenic CSF with very high specificity compared with the nonpneumococcal cases.44,45 The role of nucleic acid amplification tests in diagnosis of pneumococcal infections has yet to be fully clarified.
