Association Between Asthma Control Trajectories in Preschoolers and Long-Term Asthma Control
2022, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In PracticeCitation Excerpt :Fifth, less than 30% of children with a preschool asthma diagnosis were still considered at risk for the outcome at follow-up index ages 14 and 16 years, which may have led to bias, although a major reason for censoring was disease remission. Finally, because this was a large population-based study using administrative data, we did not have information on other potential confounders such as ethnicity, parental asthma, adherence-related behaviors, and exposure to smoke or air pollution; therefore, we could not adjust for such variables in our models.28-36 Nevertheless, our sensitivity analysis suggests that only strong to very strong unmeasured confounding must exist to nullify the associations observed between the worsening or out-of-control trajectories and both long-term unsatisfactory control and health care use outcomes.

2013, Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyCitation Excerpt :Asthma is a worldwide common chronic disease. It is well known that childhood asthma frequency before puberty is higher in boys than in girls [1–10]. Contrastingly, during adulthood, asthma prevalence augments among women when compared to men; furthermore, this ailment exhibits a more severe form in female asthma [1,5,11–17].
