Lung lavage (alveolar washing) in alveolar proteinosis

Abstract

A young woman suffering from pulmonary alveolar proteinosis was treated by a method of pulmonary lavage. This form of treatment resulted in striking clinical, physiologic and roentgenologic improvement. The serial changes in clinical course, pulmonary physiology and roentgenographic manifestations of the disease process are described.
