#: Original lavage fluids were analysed in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients (pre- and postsurfactant administration) and in healthy controls. In addition, the bovine surfactant preparation (Alveofact®) was studied. Depicted is the relative content of each phospholipid class in percent of all phospholipids
14:0: myristic acid
16:0: palmitic acid
18:0: stearic acid
18:1: oleic acid
18:2: linoleic acid
Lyso-phosphatidylcholine and cardiolipin were found as trace amounts. The relative content of each fatty acid is given in per cent of all fatty acids analysed in PC isolated from original lavage fluid (BALF). Fatty acids with a relative distribution <0.5% are not given
