The diagnostic criteria of asthma for granted special medication reimbursement from the Social Insurance Institution

A typical history, clinical features and course of asthma must be documented in the medical certificate and the following physiological criteria are applied
 At least one of the following criteria
  A variation of ≥20% in diurnal PEF recording (reference to maximal value)
  An increase of ≥15% in PEF of FEV1 with β2-agonist
  A decrease of ≥15% in PEF or FEV1 in exercise testing
 And
  A continuing regular use of asthma medication which has lasted for 6 months at the time of the decision
  • PEF: peak expiratory flow rate

  • In addition to the percentage limits given, an absolute limit value of ≥50 L·min−1 is used

  • FEV1: forced expiratory volume in one second. In addition to the percentage limits given, an absolute limit value of ≥0.15 L is used
