Competitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of the phospholipase A2 (PLA2) IIA, IVA and X messenger ribonucleic acid (RNA) levels in nasal mucosal cells from five healthy subjects.

Total RNA was used as templates for complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) synthesis and the amount of cDNA for the different PLA2 types determined by competitive PCR, utilizing cDNA mimics corresponding to respective PLA2 type. Each sample was then normalized to its reduced glyceraldehyde-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) level, giving a quantitative estimate of the amount of the different PLA2 mRNA types
