He subsequently developed adenocarcinoma of the lung. Diffuse interstitial fibrosis was seen using light microscopy. Neutron activation analysis of non-neoplastic lung tissue demonstrated high levels of chromium and cobalt suggesting the possibility of a chromium-cobalt alloy pneumoconiosis.
