Over 70% of patients develop recurrence after solving the first pneumothorax.Aim: Evaluation of cases of pneumothorax in patients with cystic fibrosis. Methods: Study includes 80 patients with CF, hospitalized and examined in the Cystic Fibrosis Center for 20 years. The group had characteristics: middle age 8,79±0.96years, with age extremes 1 month-38 years, distribution by sex 1:1,average age–3,61±0,88years,with variations in the neonatal period up to the age of 34 years. Paraclinical investigations, chest X-ray, pulmonary HRTC.Results: Pneumothorax is a major pleuro-pulmonary complication present in 17,5%CF patients,11,2% had unfavorable mortality rate at 10-22 years of age. Bronchoobstructive syndrome in CF patients revealed pulmonary hyperinflation(72,5% cases),pulmonary emphysema(22,5%),nonuniform pneumatics with hyperventilation zones. Air bubbles in CF patients are located predominantly in the subpleural area in the central parenchymal lung area (fig.),which presents a risk of rupture in the context of coughing with installation of pneumathorax. Conclusion: Pneumothorax is a cause of significant short- and long-term morbidity and mortality in CF patients.FootnotesCite this article as Eur Respir J 2022; 60: Suppl. 66, 4277.This article was presented at the 2022 ERS International Congress, in session “-”.This is an ERS International Congress abstract.
