Here we compare ‘parametric response maps’ (PRM) based on the change in lung attenuation between expiratory and inspiratory CT images with global lung function parameters, in a prospective cohort of COPD patients.Methods: Following ethical authorization and informed consent, we classified lung CT image voxels based on the change in attenuation between maximal expiration and inspiration, as: Normal; Emphysema; Trapping and Emptying Emphysema, according to [1] (Figure).Results: See: Table; 31 patients were included in the study (median age: 65 y (IQR: 60-71); Female/Male: 39%. Gold stages 1, 2, 3 & 4 represented 13%; 45%; 26% and 16% respectively. PRM clusters were not significantly different between Gold stages.Conclusions: PRM indices based on 3D registration of expiratory and inspiratory CT images were significantly correlated to global lung function and diffusion capacity in COPD patients. These indices are promising and merit further evaluation as surrogate markers in COPD patients. 1. Galban, C. J. et al.
