Patient preference for and satisfaction with a symptom driven regimen are unknown.Aim: To determine preference for and satisfaction with a combined preventer and reliever taken as needed versus twice daily preventer plus as needed reliever, in participants in the PRACTICAL study. Methods: PRACTICAL is a 12-month open-label randomised controlled trial of as-needed BUD/FORM versus regular BUD plus as-needed terbutaline (n=890). Participants finishing the study after 26th March 2018 at 6/14 sites were asked to complete a satisfaction and preference survey at their final study visit. Results: 307 of 407 (75%) eligible participants completed the survey. A combined preventer and reliever inhaler as-needed regimen was preferred by 136/151 (90%) of the as-needed BUD/FORM group vs 63/156 (40%) of the regular BUD group, p<0.0001, 199/307 (65%) overall (Figure 1). Satisfaction with medication effectiveness and speed of onset were high in both treatment arms. Of participants randomised to as-needed BUD/FORM, 92% were confident/very confident in using it as a reliever. Conclusions: Overall patients preferred as-needed BUD/FORM in mild asthma, especially those who had used this for 12 months in the PRACTICAL studyFootnotesCite this article as: European Respiratory Journal 2019; 54: Suppl. 63, PA4188.This is an ERS International Congress abstract.
