Descriptive statistics, analyses of variance, first order correlations and regression analyses were applied. Results: 115 patients (20 adolescents, 95 adults) with a mean age of 30.4±13.1 years participated in the survey. Needs for Attention/Affirmation (AA) (1.59±.86) and for inner peace (IP) (1,39±.97) scored highest, while religious needs (RN) (.51±.78) and existential needs (EN) (.69±.75) scored low. Usage of a respirator was associated with higher AA (F=10.1; p=.002) and IP (F=6.2; p=.015), and being on the waiting list for lung transplantation (LTX) was associated with higher AA (F=4.8, p=.030), higher EN (F=5.3; p=.023) and higher RN (F=15.5 (p<.001). After LTX values were similar to the general CF population. IP needs were predicted best (R2=.23) by gratitude/awe (Beta=.42, T=5.0, p<.0001) and low life satisfaction (Beta=-.25, T=-.3.0, p=.003), while AA needs we predicted (R2=.28) by low life satisfaction (Beta=-.43, T=-.5.3, p<.0001) and higher gratitude/awe (Beta=.31, T=3.8, p<.0001).Conclusions: Needs for AA and IP are important for patients with CF; RN become more relevant for patients on a waiting list for LTX. Evaluation of patient´s needs can provide clinicians with useful information to further support them in difficult life situations.FootnotesCite this article as: European Respiratory Journal 2019; 54: Suppl. 63, PA4524.This is an ERS International Congress abstract.
