However, there were few papers showing that adult patients with asthma had improved by the use of air purifiers in Japan. Objective: We aimed to find out whether air purifier improve indoor enviroment and the patients with asthma. Methods: Fifty patients with asthma, who had serum IgE antigen specific for house dust mite, were enrolled and randomly divided into intervention group (n = 30) and control group (n = 20). Patients in the intervention group used air purifiers in their bedrooms. Before and after the use of air purifiers, we measured the amount of house dust mite antigens, fungi, and fine particles with a diameter of 2.5 μm or less (PM2.5) to evaluate indoor air quality. The statuses of asthma were evaluated objectively by pulmonary function tests, FOT, and FeNO. Clinical assessment of asthma control were evaluated by ACT score and treatment steps. Results: Significant differences by the intervention were observed in the amount of PM2.5 in the bedroom and FeNO. Some other parameters in the intervention group showed better results (Figure.1), however, the differences from control group did not reach significant level. Conclusion: Indoor cleaning by air purifier seems promising therapeutic option for patients with asthma and further study is needed to clarify it’s roles.Figure.1FootnotesCite this article as: European Respiratory Journal 2018 52: Suppl. 62, PA1691.This is an ERS International Congress abstract.
