The exact incidence of fatal and nonfatal FBA and choking related injuries in children is unclear.Material and Method: We analyzed 149 children data underwent to rigid bronchoschopy in order to remove foreign bodies in respiratory airways in our hospital. Results: 115 foreign bodies are removed from larynx, trachea and bronchial tree during 2006-2015 period. 51%, who had a choking episode have been sent immediately to ENT service and underwent immediately to rigid bronchoscopy. 49% of children went to pediatric service because of different respiratory signs (cough, pneumonia, asthma etc) and underwent first to flexible bronchoscopy. The average age was 23 months old. Male patients were 60%. The rate of complications was 19% and complied emphysema, atelectasis, pneumonia, bronchoectasy, pyopneumothorax and pneumomediastinum. The index of suspicion was 125%. False negative rate 20%. Complication of FBS were laryngeal edema, hypoxia, bleeding and occurred in 6% of patients. Death occurred in 1 patient who presented with hypoxic arrest. Compared to other studies[1] and the rate of major complication seemed higher and shows a delay in diagnosis and treatment. Conclusion: Removal of the foreign body is the primary objective and the mainstay of the treatment in case of FBA.[1] Gregori D, et al(2010), ESFBI study.
