JF - European Respiratory Journal JO - Eur Respir J DO - 10.1183/13993003.congress-2016.PA5038 VL - 48 IS - suppl 60 SP - PA5038 AU - Kalomoira Kefala AU - Celine Hebette AU - Catia Castigliano AU - Marie Fonteyn AU - Julie Harvengt AU - Marie-Christine Seghaye Y1 - 2016/09/01 UR - http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/48/suppl_60/PA5038.abstract N2 - Introduction: Breathlessness to the effort is among the most common signs that lead children to pneumoallergology consultations.Guidelines are not clear and it is usually under evaluated in daily medical practice.Aims and objectives: To test if a) breathlessness to the effort could be a sign of an exercise-induced asthma(EIA) and identify characteristics and phenotypes in children b)a rehabilitation to the effort programme(REP) could be easily integrated in a local outpatient clinic.Methods: We performed an exercise stress test(EST) along with standard spirometry and plethysmography and an allergology investigation to all children that proceeded to pediatric pulmonology consultations due to breathlessness to the effort during a four-month period.A REP has been integrated to children's treatment.Results: 68 children presented due to breathlessness to the effort.EST has been abnormal for 56/68.23/56 had a normal spirometry/plethysmography.10/56 had 15% decrease of FEV1/FVC.Phenotypes of EIA:allergic (50%),allergic and obesity(2,9%),allergic and obesity and severe eczema(1,5%),EIA(19,1%),EIA and obesity(10,3%),obesity,asthma,no EIA(2,9%).2/56 suffered concurrent cardiomyopathy and showed good tolerance to short acting b2-mimetics.Conclusions: EIA has been correlated to allergies in a statistically significant way (p=0,01).EST increased diagnosis of exercise-induced asthma and facilitated compliance to the treatment.A REP has been easily integrated in our small outpatient clinic and decreased children's breathlessness.The increase of children's physical activities has been a positive feed-back for doctors,nurses and patients.
