After an extensive review of the literature in order to describe the characteristics and definition of the concept, a fieldwork phase followed in order to empirically elucidate the ADL in some Iranian patients suffering from COPD. In the third phase, attributes of ADL were extracted from the first and second phases. Purposive sampling was done for Eighteen participants consisted of patients with COPDResults: The review of literature in theoretical phase determined the attributes of the ADL in COPD patients, including “Complex and multi-factorial”,“changed pattern” and “dyspnea effect”. Fieldwork phase determined attributes such as “Variablepower”, “perceiveddyspnea”, “Changed communication pattern” and “Changed self care pattern”.In the final analytical phase, the critical attributes of ADL in patients with COPD were investigated. They included “Complex and multi-factorial”,“dyspnea affection”, “Trying to livenormaland independent”.Conclusion: The concept analysis of ADL showed some of the required conditions for the ADL of patients with COPD in nursing care, which have not been mentioned in the literature.
