PT - JOURNAL ARTICLE AU - Gomez Larrauri, Ana AU - Pedrero Tejada, Sandra AU - Lopez Picado, Amanda AU - Garcia Fuika, Sophe AU - Sobradillo Ecenarro, Patricia AU - Oliva Rodriguez, Paola Carolina AU - Bravo Blanco, David TI - Factors related with hospitalizations due to asthma exacerbations AID - 10.1183/13993003.congress-2015.PA2529 DP - 2015 Sep 01 TA - European Respiratory Journal PG - PA2529 VI - 46 IP - suppl 59 4099 - http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/46/suppl_59/PA2529.short 4100 - http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/46/suppl_59/PA2529.full SO - Eur Respir J2015 Sep 01; 46 AB - Aim: To know the characteristics of asthmatics who are hospitalized for exacerbation and to analyze the factors implicated in the hospital stay and readmissionsMethods: Retrospective study,asthmatics(18-80years)hospitalized for exacerbation in 2012-2013,Hospital Universitario Álava General data were collected(tobacco,comorbidities,FEV1,treatment) and severity of exacerbation (arterial gases,ICU admission,intubation,hospital stay,readmissions)Results: 131patients.66%women,older than men(55years)with more reflux,ansiety and depression,and more corticosteroids use.There were no differences in asthma severity,hospital stay and readmissions between sex.Patients<40 were more smokers with more allergy and lower hospital stay(4vs5vs6days,p<0,0001).Patients >60 had more cardiovascular problems and reflux.Longer stay was related to high age,low FEV1 and severity of exacerbation(ICU stay,high pCO2).Readmissions were higher in those who had previous admissions(p=0,002).The length of stay was associated independently with the risk of readmissions(OR1,23;IC 95%1,06-1,43) Conclusions: The rate of hospitalization for asthma was higher in women,in climacteric period,with more anxiety and depression.Patients >60 years had longer hospital stay and more cardiovascular comorbidity.Factors associated with higher hospital stay were age, asthma severity and admission to ICU.There was an association between having previous admissions and the length of stay with readmissions.
