This could be avoided by rapid assessment and effective management. Rapid assessment usually occurs through spirometry but this only measures total air displacement with no details of chest motion.This research evaluates a concept prototype system that is low-cost, non-invasive and portable. The system aligns images from 4 Microsoft Kinect Motion Cameras to create a 3d representation of the patient's Torso. 13 Healthy Volunteers and 9 Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients were evaluated by comparing measurements of the system with spirometry. Quiet breathing was captured for 20 seconds, followed by a relaxed vital capacity, then 20 seconds of quiet breathing, repeated 3 times.Fig 1 shows correlation coefficients between the system and spirometry for all subjects and repeated measurements. Identified outliers are shown by the red crosses. Correlation coefficients not deemed outliers were >0.8656 for the patient group and >0.9226 for healthy volunteers (p-values < 0.001). A one-way ANOVA (F[1,51]=7.5783; p=0.0082) indicated that the groups' sample mean values were significantly different. In conclusion, a rapid assessment system for respiratory difficulties was evaluated, with a difference shown in Healthy Volunteers and CF patients. ER -
