Abstract
The International Classification of Disease (ICD-11) has adopted three timeframes for dyspnoea: acute, subacute and chronic, the latter despite underlying causes being optimally treated. Breathlessness, a word patients use, is now a synonym for dyspnoea. https://bit.ly/3Z2qNya
Extract
Reflecting the evolving understanding of breathlessness and its impacts, the International Classification of Disease (ICD) version 11 has recently listed “breathlessness” (the patients’ descriptor of their subjective symptom) as a synonym for “dyspnoea” for the first time [1]. ICD-11 also now incorporates wording for three durations of breathlessness: “acute” (hours to 3 weeks), “subacute” (3–8 weeks) and “chronic” (>8 weeks).
