The 2022 European Society of Cardiology and European Respiratory Society (ESC/ERS) pulmonary hypertension (PH) guidelines are a tour de force of current knowledge and updated evidence-based recommendations on the diagnosis and management of PH [1]. Successive iterations of the European PH guidelines have become the reference standard followed by clinicians across the world, including many countries outside of Europe. One of the most important triumphs of the current 2022 PH guidelines is an overarching emphasis on multidisciplinary, collaborative and patient-centred care. Indeed, the guidelines were themselves authored, reviewed and endorsed by a broad range of experts in respiratory medicine, cardiology, medical imaging, nursing and, importantly, by patient representatives. Such a monolithic document cannot be fully summarised in a brief editorial, though our aim is to highlight some of the key advances and changes in the 2022 ESC/ERS PH guidelines.
Abstract
The 2022 ESC/ERS pulmonary hypertension guidelines reflect updated definitions, diagnosis and management recommendations based on current evidence. Multidisciplinary, patient-centred care and key areas for new research are central to the new guidelines. http://bit.ly/3UyswZR
