Abstract
Introduction: The choice of bronchodilator for responsiveness testing (BRT) is a clinical decision [Eur Respir J 2005;26:319-38]. We had eradicated SABA for asthma management at 2014. Since January 2019 we use budesonide/formoterol for BRT in asthma.
Objectives: To compare budesonide/formoterol with salbutamol as bronchodilator for BRT.
Methods: We reviewed our Hospital database to obtain from the same asthmatic patient, at least one pulmonary function test using salbutamol and another with budesonide/formoterol for BRT at two different time points.
Results: We found a similar bronchodilator responsiveness between salbutamol and budesonide/formoterol in these 101 asthmatic individuals.
Table 1. Findings at both testing times in 101 asthmatic individuals.
Values are presented as Mean ± standard deviation. FEV1=forced expiratory volume in 1 s. FVC=forced vital capacity. *<0.001
Conclusion: Budesonide/formoterol can be used for BRT instead of salbutamol without impacting in the test results.
