Abstract
Introduction: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), creates a social problem since there are predisposing factors that, in addition, affects the person at multidimensional dimensions.
Aim: To determine the association between the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with pulmonary TB and their family contacts in Cali - Colombia.
Materials and methods: A case-control study. The WHOQoL-BREF questionnaire was used to measure HRQoL. The association was analyzed by Fisher test or Chi-square; Odds Ratio and confidence interval were calculated.
Results: Seventy participants entered the study, 35 with TB (cases), and 35 family contacts (controls). Regarding the characteristics of the population, differences were found in cigarette and recreational drugs use in cases. In the evaluation of the quality of life; In the physical, psychological and social domains, the cases presented lower levels compared to the controls (p <0.05) (Table 1)
Conclusions: The HRQoL of people with TB was lower compared to their family controls, not only in aspects related to the physical component. It is necessary to promote comprehensive interventions in this population.
