After receiving some enquiries regarding the practical application of the NIVO score, the authors of the aforementioned article wish to provide some clarification regarding the circumstances in which one would score positively for atrial fibrillation.
The following statement has been added to the “Tool building” subsection of the Results section:
“Atrial fibrillation (AF) refers to persistent AF, new AF and paroxysmal AF (even if in sinus rhythm at initiation of ventilation).”
The following clarifications have also been added to the caption of figure 1, which is an illustration of the NIVO scoring model:
“Atrial fibrillation (AF) should be positively scored if: persistent AF, new AF or paroxysmal AF (even if in sinus rhythm at initiation of ventilation). Time to acidaemia >12 h should be positively scored if: >12 h have elapsed between arrival at hospital and index episode of acidaemia.”
The article has been corrected and republished online.
