Abstract

Introduction: An illness´diagnosis is the propper moment to quit tobbaco habit due to prognosis is going to be different between those who keep smoking and those who have already given up smoking.

Objective: knowing the procedence and characteristics of patients who come to cessation´s consultation.

Methodology:Retrospective descriptive study of patients who come to tobbaco´s consultation at Neumology´s Service in the last 3 years(randomly).

Results: 232 patients from smoking cessation consultation have been reviewed (50%(116)men, 50%,women), with an average of 56.2 years old.

80% have already tried quit smoking.They smoked an average of 24.55 cigarettes/day, 25.8% of them(60)with COPD diagnosis.

32.8% quited smoking at 15 days,keeping without smoking 72,2%.Between those who keep smoking at 15 days(67.2% of total),25.45% achieved quit smoking.

Conclusions:

  • - Patients who come to our consultation present moderate nicotine´s dependence,an elevated number of smoked cigarettes,an early age of onset and previous attempts of quit smoking.

  • - Vascular patology patients have a lower age of onset,a higher consumption and a lower abandonment of smoking habit.

  • - Being without smoking at 15 days from day D is a predictive factor for quit smoking at the third month.

  • - Cardiology service doesn´t derive patients to our consultation.
