Abstract
Smoking is the main cause of many respiratory diseases and is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
Aim: to estimate prevalence of smoking children with different diseases and smoking students.
Material and methods: 100 children (7-16 years) admitted in Children Hospital and 100 students of Medical University (22-24 years) were included in this study. We have asked them by anonymous questionnaires: do you know about harm of smoking, do you smoke, have you tried to smoke; smoking among friends and family, who has given the first cigarette, about the purposes of life and etc.
Results: Diagnosises of children were: bronchial asthma (40%), acute respiratory infections (23%), vegetovascular dystonia (15%), pyelonephritis (10%), glomerulonephritis (4%), chronic gastroduodenitis (8%). Almost all children know about harm of smoking, but the number of smokers increases with the years. 3% (10) of children 7-12 years have tried to smoke till 12 years; half of 13-14 years have tried to smoke, 10.5% smokes constantly; in group of 15-16 years have tried to smoke 91.6% (11), 50% from them smoke constantly. We revealed high frequency of smoking students (80%), from them 25% smoke constantly and 80% incidentally. Almost all children from different age groups among life priorities have put health on the first place. For students more important there were material values, health took 5 positions.
Conclusions: All children knows about harm to health, but prevalence of smoking increases with the years of children, including kids with asthma. It is necessary to include questions of preventive measures of smoking in programs of rehabilitation of patients and medical education considering negative influence of smoke on health.
