Abstract
Aim: To carry out a comparative assessment of specific parameters of QoL in children with bronchial asthma (BA) on the basic therapy and in an additional course of physiotherapy.
Methods: In this prospective 3-weeks study, 135 children with controlled moderate persistent BA (AST = 23.2 points) on the standard pharmacotherapy as ICS + LABA by GINA were included, being separated in 2 groups: 70 children (42 boys and 28 girls, 11.6 ± 0.3 years) - on the standard therapy; 65 children (43 boys and 22 girls, 11.3 ± 0.6 years)-with the additional course of physiotherapy with breathing exercises in the pool, twice a week, the six procedures in general. With the PAQLQ, at 1, 2, 3 weeks, we assessed the QoL. The data was processed by IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0.
Results: The integral QoL, in the groups, revealed differences (p<0.05) in children with BA who received the course of physiotherapy (153.5 ± 4.2 points and 97.2 ± 9.7). The most discriminant informativeness was found for the integral QoL. By AUROC, the integral QoL and the emotional sphere indices had significant sensitivity/specificity. For the QoL indices in dynamics (1-3 weeks), we indicated the reliable sensitivity and specificity for the integral QoL, the vital activity and emotional sphere indices.
Conclusions: The reliable differences were revealed in the integral index of QoL, with the certain advantage of the addition of the course of physiotherapy with breathing exercises in the pool due to fewer restrictions in vital activity and emotional sphere.
