Abstract
Background: Most of patients in pneumological rehabilitation suffer from Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A successful rehabilitation can improve the health status of the patients and depends on the patients´motivation. This study analysed the preferences of patients with COPD and Asthma for different components of an inpatient rehabilitation program in Germany.
Methods: Patients with Asthma and COPD were recruited in one of three inpatient rehabilitation clinics in Germany between summer and winter 2015/2016. The patients assessed different components (patient education, sport and exercise therapy, respiratory physiotherapy, mental health) of the inpatient rehabilitation with the help of a discrete choice experiment. The attributes for the DCE are based on a preliminary study and on Guidelines. Sociodemographic information and health related quality of life were also collected. Preferences were analysed with a conditional logit model and supplemented by mixed logit and latent class models.
Results: 269 patients (48% m; 52% f) have been included to date. More patients with Asthma (62%) than COPD (29%) with a mean age of 54.9 years participated. All four attributes show significant results in the conditional logit model. Sport and exercise therapy has the strongest influence (OR=4.1 one hour/day, OR=10.32 two hours/day, OR= 5.35 three hours/day).
Discussion: The first results show that patients have the highest preferences for sport and exercise therapy between 2 and 3 hours per day. Further results with a higher sample size, different sub analysis and for different models will be shown at the conference.
