Abstract
The e-cigarette has been experienced by 86.2% of smokers and 25.9% of non-smokers in Parisian schoolchildren according to the 2015 PST survey on 3516 schoolchildren. We investigate on the nicotine content of the e-liquid used by theses schoolchildren.
Methods: In the 2015 survey conducted by PST on a randomized sample of 2% of 12-19 y.o. Parisian schoolchildren, we analysed the nicotine content in e-liquid.
Results: 371 of the 1256 schoolchildren of the study who had experienced e-cigarette precise nicotine level used. Among respondents 189 (50.9%) report use a non-nicotine e-liquid. The female are 54.6% to use non nicotine e-liquid and the male 44.4%. Non-nicotine e-liquid are more used in 12-15y.o. (60.7%) than in 16-19 y.o. (42.9%)
The majority of non-daily smokers used non nicotine-liquid then the vast majority of smoker use non nicotine e-liquid (figure).
Among those who have just experienced e-cigarette, 56.8% use e-liquid without nicotine, while among those who used e-cigarettes last 30 days are 43.6% has used no-nicotine a liquid.
Conclusions: Then non-nicotine e-liquid represent less than 5% of the French e-liquid market it represent the majority of e-liquid used by children. Prospective studies are needed to understand how adolescent using non-nicotine e-liquid change their consumption over the time to stop all consumption or to switch to tobacco, or remain non-nicotine or nicotine e-cigarette users.
