Abstract
Purpose: More than 3million people were exposed to silica in the EU(2000-2008)Main goals of this study are a)review the scientific evidence related to the role of nurses in patients exposed to silica at workplace b)determine nursing diagnoses to guide respiratory nurses
Methods: The literature search (Spanish and English) Databases: COMPLUDOC, ENFISPO, MEDLINE, CUIDEN, LICACS, DIALNET, SCIELO (October-December 2013) Descriptors: “nursing”, “silicosis”, “standardized language”
Articles from all journals were included as they were indexed in the database
Results: There is a lack of scientific evidence related to nursing actions for patients exposed to silica. However, there are potential nursing diagnoses an interventions to apply in patients exposed to silica
RISK FOR CONTAMINATION(00180) | |
Risk identification(6610) | -Introduce a systemic risk assessment -Review medical records |
Environmental management: safety(6486) | -Identify risks regarding to environmental safety |

Nursing diagnosis and interventions (NIC)
Conclusion: There is a lack of scientific evidence related to nursing care in patients exposed to silica at workplace.More research is needed to be done
We have identified two nursing diagnoses in patients exposed to silica:Risk for Contamination(00180) and Risk for Poisoning(00037).
