Unfortunately, the authorship sequence was inadvertently reversed during the publication process and should have read J. Krieger and W.T. McNicholas on behalf of the Task Force Members. The principal recommendations of the Task Force concerning driver licensing were also omitted from the published paper. These are listed below.
Recommendations concerning driver licensing in patients with sleep apnoea syndrome
1. All governments should have active public education programmes highlighting the dangers of driving when sleepy and emphasising the treatability of the sleep apnoea syndrome.
2. The European Commission and all member countries should develop explicit regulations for drivers with sleep apnoea syndrome on the basis of advice from expert panels.
3. Patients with sleep apnoea syndrome who are sleepy should not drive until started on treatment and shown to be no longer sleepy.
4. Commercial drivers with sleep apnoea syndrome should be monitored carefully and this should include the use of breathing activated objective time clocks on their continuous positive airway pressure machines, if so treated.
