CME in the ERJ
For readers
The ERJ regularly features CME (continuing medical education) articles. CME articles are peer-reviewed studies that are considered to be of a high educational value for life-long learning, enabling respiratory physicians and researchers to advance and further validate their knowledge. These articles are accredited by EBAP (the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology), an organisation that accredits international CME activities according to the rules set by European bodies such as the UEMS/EACCME. CME credits are recognised as a mark of continuing education in Europe at a national authority level.
To earn credits on ERJ articles: read a CME article featured in the ERJ by clicking its [PDF] or [HTML] link. Access to the articles is based on membership to the ERS or subscription to the ERJ. A CME question form is available alongside the PDF; access this by clicking the appropriate [CME] link.

The CME form can be completed and submitted online. Alternatively, you can complete the form and email it to info{at}ersj.org.uk or post it to European Respiratory Society, 442 Glossop Road, Sheffield, S10 2PX, UK. Successful exam respondents will be awarded 1 CME credit per article.
From January 1, 2010, CME credits will be free of charge.
For reviewers
The ERJ is now able to award its reviewers CME credits. EBAP (European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology) have recommended that ERJ reviewers meeting certain criteria should be able to earn three CME credits per manuscript reviewed, and a maximum of 15 reviewer credits in a year.
For each manuscript reviewed, Associate Editors of the ERJ will decide whether a reviewer should earn CME credits for that particular review. The following areas will be considered when deciding whether a reviewer should receive CME credits for their review of a particular manuscript:
• timeliness of the review;
• adherence to the reviewer guidelines;
• completeness and accuracy of the review for the authors; and
• usefulness of the confidential recommendation for the Editors.
Reviewers found to have a concealed existing conflict of interest will not receive CME credits for that review.
CME certification will be available on request from the publications office. Three CME credits will be available for each ERJ article review, and a maximum of 15 credits can be awarded in a calendar year. Reviewers who wish to claim their CME credits can contact erspublications{at}ersj.org.uk for certificates. .
