2024, Endocrine and Metabolic ScienceErgogenic effects of citrulline supplementation on exercise performance and physiological indexes of exercise performance during cycling tests: A review
2022, Science and SportsCitation Excerpt :Causes may include psychological mechanisms related to the perception of fatigue during exercise [29] as well as physiological mechanisms discussed in Paragraph 4.1. These include improved blood circulation and oxygen delivery to exercising skeletal muscles [30] along with a greater O2 extraction and use [31] by exercising skeletal muscles, which can result in a reduced energetic cost of cycling [32–34] and greater production of ATP via oxidative phosphorylation [35]. Moreover, it is reasonable to consider that some of these effects and adaptations may be greater following a chronic intake of NO precursors than acute intake due to the persistent increase in the bioavailability of NO [33].
Development potentials of commonly used high-intensity training strategies on central and peripheral components of maximal oxygen consumption
2022, Respiratory Physiology and NeurobiologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore, it is claimed that sustaining a maximal level of SV throughout a continues severe-intensity exercise is one of the most important factors (Stanley and Buchheit, 2014; Vella and Robergs, 2005). The required cardiac adaptations are achieved by SV development, based on increasing in plasma and blood volume resulting in a more effective muscle and skin blood flow during exercises (Coyle, 1999; Gelman et al., 2010). As a result, the most important requirement is to provide high levels of SV, HR and a−vO2diff throughout the exercise sessions for achieving the highest potential of the VO2max.
