2020, Environmental ResearchCitation Excerpt :The study population was not adequately described in seven studies (Caminati et al., 2019; Carreno et al., 2019; Cirera et al., 2012; Ghosh et al., 2012; Hanigan and Johnston, 2007; Singh et al., 2017; Wang and Yousef, 2007), with a further 15 studies including paediatric cases under the age of 3 in their analysis (Caminati et al., 2019; Carreno et al., 2019; Garty et al., 1998; Ghosh et al., 2012; Hanigan and Johnston, 2007; Jariwala et al., 2011; Marques Mejias et al., 2019; Shrestha et al., 2018; Singh et al., 2017; Sun et al., 2016; Tobias et al., 2004; Tobías et al., 2003; Wang and Yousef, 2007; Witonsky et al., 2018), an age when diagnosis of asthma was prone to misclassification (Sly et al., 2011). The second concern was that 12 identified studies (Babin et al., 2007; Caminati et al., 2019; Carreno et al., 2019; Chakraborty et al., 2016; Cirera et al., 2012; Garty et al., 1998; Ghosh et al., 2012; Hanigan and Johnston, 2007; Jariwala et al., 2011; Marques Mejias et al., 2019; Shrestha et al., 2018; Wang and Yousef, 2007) did not provide adequate description of how airborne grass pollen was quantified (microscope magnification, transacts counted and estimating missing grass pollen data). There were differences in pollen and spore trap samplers used, nine studies used a Burkard continuous flow volumetric trap for pollen collection.
