2004, Handbook of Systemic Autoimmune DiseasesCitation Excerpt :One patient with IFN-induced ILD died within a few weeks with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (Abi-Nassif et al., 2003). Other patterns of IFN-induced ILD include BOOP (Ferriby and Stojkovic, 2001; Patel et al., 2001), which manifests with diffuse infiltrates (Ogata et al., 1994; Kumar et al., 2001) or a solitary mass (Ferriby and Stojkovic, 2001), and a desquamative interstitial pneumonia pattern (Kamisako et al., 1993). Less common adverse effects of IFNs alpha and beta include deterioration of asthma (Krasnowska et al., 1992), which relapses after rechallenge with the drug (Bini and Weinshel, 1999), cough (Pileire et al., 1999), pleural effusion (Takeda et al., 2000), and pulmonary hypertension (Fruehauf et al., 2001).
