While there have been no reports demonstrating substance P production during infection in swine, it has been shown to be produced in other species (Joyce et al., 1990; Arnalich et al., 1996; Beer et al., 2002). Whether substance P (and bradykinin) is produced during periods of microbial-induced inflammation remain to be demonstrated in vivo.
