2017, Veterinary Immunology and ImmunopathologyCitation Excerpt :Different viruses can interfere with ECM composition and stability. For example, annexin-1 is a 37 kDa protein that mediates the anti-inflammatory actions of glucocorticoids; is involved in diverse cellular processes, including membrane fusion, differentiation, exocytosis, calcium channels, oxidative stress, and interaction with cytoskeletal proteins; and is overexpressed in IPNV-infected cells as compared to control cells (Flower and Rothwell, 1994 Hwang et al., 2007). Alternatively, fibulin-1 is a calcium-binding plasma and ECM protein that is strongly stimulated by viral infection and is implicated in cellular transformation and tumor invasion (Du et al., 2002).
