2015, European Journal of Pharmaceutics and BiopharmaceuticsCitation Excerpt :Single bulk material was fed into an air-jet mill (Aljet mill, Fluid Energy, Plumsteadville, PA, USA) with a feed pressure of 80 psi and a grinding pressure of 65 psi. Each bulk material was processed until the 90% particle size was less than 10 μm and 50% reached the respirable range (1–5 μm) [33], and this process was carried out approximately 5–7 times. Samples were collected and analyzed from the collecting chamber.
The effects of particle size on measurement of airway hyperresponsiveness to methacholine
2013, Annals of Allergy, Asthma and ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :The difference in particle size resulted in significant difference in the nebulizers' effect despite calibrating and adjusting the nebulizers' output for the inhalation time. This difference contradicts the previous notion, which suggested that a 2.7-fold difference in particle size was not an important determinant of AHR measurement using methacholine PC20 compared with the nebulizer output.8 However, our data are consistent with others that demonstrated that the Wright nebulizer is not the ideal nebulizer for use during methacholine challenge because of underestimation of AHR, which results in a higher PC20, probably due to a very small particle size distribution.16,18
