To assess the mortality rates because of RD as a most important indicator of quality of medical care in 2008-2013.Methods. We were conducted structured analysis of the indicators of mortality (IM) per 100 thousand of the population from the statistical materials of Federal State Statistics Service¹ and Ministry of Health of Russian Federation².Results. IM from RD occupied the 5th place among causes of death after diseases of the circulatory system, neoplasm (cancer), external causes of mortality, and diseases of the digestive system. A consistent trend of decreasing in the standardized IM from RD was observed from 49,9 (2008) to 44,6 (2011). The highest IM was registered in the Siberian federal district (67,7 in 2008 and 62,1 in 2011), and the lowest IM was in the Southern federal district (37,7 in 2008 and 38,7 in 2011). Pneumonia was the leading cause of death from RD. The share of pneumonia in the structure of causes of death from RD increased from 49,8%(2008) to 53,4% (2011) and 51,2% (2013). Less than half of causes of death from RD accounted for chronic respiratory diseases: from 42,8% in 2008 to 38,1% in 2011. IM because of asthma decreased from 3,8% in 2008 to 2,9% in 2011.Conclusion A range of IM because of RD was associated with the regional epidemiological situation and demographic features. Understanding these processes can help to manage the risk factors of mortality because of RD for preventive and curative interventions.¹ Federal State Statistics Service:“Demographic Yearbook of Russia. 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012.²Bulletin Natural Movement of the Population of Russian Federation, 2013. internet resource.
