TY - JOUR T1 - Abnormalities of trapezius muscle may be a part of Polands syndrome JF - European Respiratory Journal JO - Eur Respir J VL - 44 IS - Suppl 58 SP - P2440 AU - Nurettin Yiyit Y1 - 2014/09/01 UR - http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/44/Suppl_58/P2440.abstract N2 - Poland syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly with the absence or hypoplasia of major and minor pectoral muscles, anomaly of breast or nipple, hypoplasia of subcutaneous tissue, chest wall deformity, pectoral alopecia, and axillary and hand anomalies. Absence of many upper extremity muscles (latissimus dorsi, external oblique, and serratus anterior muscles) may accompany to the syndrome. A case of Polands syndrome with absence or hypoplasia of trapezius muscle have not been reported previously.A 38 years old male patient was admitted due to chest deformity. The patient was diagnosed as left sided Polands syndrome. Thoracic computed tomography displayed absence of pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, latissimus dorsi, serratus anterior muscles and hypoplasia of trapezius muscles on the left side. Additionally scapula alata, hypomastia, hypotelia and pectoral alopesia were detected. In some cases of Polands syndrome, the latissimus dorsi, external oblique, and serratus anterior muscle are also affected. Differently ipsilateral trapezius muscle was hypoplastic in our case. Isolated bilateral absence of trapezius muscles has been reported. This the first case of Poland syndrome with abnormality of trapezius muscle. We think that our case is important example to show that trapezius muscle can be affected in Polands syndrome. ER -
