TY - JOUR T1 - Effectiveness of a public program for management moderate to severe COPD in Bahia State, Northest of Brazil JF - European Respiratory Journal JO - Eur Respir J VL - 44 IS - Suppl 58 SP - 1981 AU - Charleston Ribeiro Pinto AU - Laira Lorena Yamamura AU - Aramis Tupina Alcântara AU - Lindemberg Assunção Costa AU - Gisélia Souza AU - Eduardo Martins Netto AU - Antônio Carlos Moreira Lemos Y1 - 2014/09/01 UR - http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/44/Suppl_58/1981.abstract N2 - Introduction: The COPD Management Program of Bahia / Brazil (called Respira Bahia Program) is an initiative of the State Health Secretary aiming to improve clinical management and decision-making capacity of public health systems for respiratory diseases based on integrated multidisciplinary approach and free access to medication.Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of Respira Bahia Program on health status and quality-of-life (QoL) among patients with COPD.Methods: Prospective cohort study involving 205 patients (141 male, mean age 63.9 ± 10.3 yrs.) with moderate to very severe COPD (FEV1 39.9 ± 14.1% predicted) admitted in the outpatient reference clinic in the Octavio Mangabeira Specialized Hospital, in Salvador/Bahia. Effectiveness was assessed as the impact on medians from baseline and 12 months follow up on health status, assessed with Clinical COPD Questionnaire (CCQ) and QoL, assessed with Airways Questionnaire 20 (AQ20).Results: 173 patients concluded the study.
