TY - JOUR T1 - Cholecalciferol supplementation in patients taking anti tuberculosis treatment JF - European Respiratory Journal JO - Eur Respir J VL - 44 IS - Suppl 58 SP - P3053 AU - Surendra Kumar Chityala Y1 - 2014/09/01 UR - http://erj.ersjournals.com/content/44/Suppl_58/P3053.abstract N2 - Aim: To Assess dosage and duration of VitD supplementation in Pts taking ATTMethods: 300 pts started on ATT under RNTCP were enrolled in the study.Initial 25OHD3 were measured and eligible pts were divided into 2 groups, one receiving 60K IU per week for 2 months and other receiving 2500IU per day for 6 months. 25OHD3 levels were measured at 2 and 6 months.Results: Of the 300 pts, 247 were found to have deficient /insuffient levels of VitD3.Of these 153 were females and 94 were males. They were divided into 2 groups. One group was given 60K IU per week for 2 months and other group was given 2500IU per day for the total duration of 6 months.At the end of 2 months, both groups reached optimum levels of 25OHD3. Again, they were tested at 6 months, The group that was given VitD for 2 months had 34 patients with falling levels. While the group on daily VitD had optimum levels.Conclusions: All pts general condition improved when pts were started on VitD supplementation. Sputum conversion rates were similar in both groups. Some patients on 60K group were deficient again by 6 months indicating need for continued supplementation. Pts on 2500 group had defaulted some doses but levels were maintained at 6 months.The dose and duration for correct supplementation has to be reached with bigger samples. ER -
