In Latin-America, mobile cellphone communication are first choice for Internet access. Currently, there is no data about preference of using SoMe between asthma patients older than 40 years old.MethodsObservational, cross sectional study. We developed a pilot survey by agreement between authors, including 18 closed and opened questions about frequency of using SoMe and mobile devices. All patients with Asthma diagnosis assessed by pulmonologist.ResultsIn this pilot study 16 patients were recruited, mean age of 55.05 years old (SD, 12.95), mean of asthma diagnosis of 16.6 years old (SD, 12.43), 50% studied high-school and 60% were female.72.2% reported using of SMS, 29.4% by email, 38.9% using internet and 22.2% using Facebook. 35% preferred using internet for getting information about asthma, but 5.6% referred other information sources as SMS or Facebook. 80% reported interest in receiving information about their disease by SMS, and 52.6% by email; but only 22.2% answered Facebook as a source. 78.9% reported interest in communicating towards their doctors by using SMS, 55.6% by email and 25% by Facebook.Only 15.8% reported using cellphone with apps, and 18.8% answered interested in receiving information or communicating with their doctors throughout whatsapp.ConclusionsIn our pilot study, SMS and email had been demonstrated to be the most used sources of information, as a result SoMe may be considered as a tool for educational purposes in patients with Asthma. In some subset of patients, Facebook would be a useful instrument. ER -
