Lancet 2011).Therefore we performed a 6-month observational study on this topic (ELSA Study, N=16 center, n=320 asthmatic subjects). The presence of chronic bronchitis and/or CO diffusion impairment were considered criteria for the diagnosis of overlap with COPD.Results are summarized below. Patients with COPD overlap (27%) were less controlled than asthmatic subjects (18±4 vs 20±4 ACT score, p<0.05), more prone to ≥2 severe asthma exacerbations (18% vs 6% of them, p<0.05) and less frequently users of a LABA/ICS combination (58% vs 74%).
