Therefore it is essential to identify ideas for improvement based on individuals experiences of lung cancer care.Aims and objectives: To examine the perspectives of patients and significant others, based on their written reports on lung cancer care, and thus identify areas for improvement.Design: An empirical design with a qualitative approach.Method: Data was collected using diaries. The written reports from 15 patients (13 men and two women) and two significant others (one wife and one daughter) were analyzed with qualitative content analysis Results: Two themes emerged from the result. The first theme was: Feelings of insecurity and suffering linked to care, the disease and their life. The related categories were suffering from care, disease and life. The second theme was: Feelings of security linked to good interpersonal relationships. The related categories were good interpersonal relationships. Increased psychosocial support for the patients and training in communications for the staff were the two areas of improvement suggested in the written reports. Conclusions: This study showed that patients with lung cancer often felt insecurity and suffering, due largely to health care. When good meetings took place, security and good interpersonal relationships were created.
