Gal-9 mRNA expression did not vary significantly between the two groups (3.2±1.3 vs 3.3±1.1). Asthma patients contained elevated mRNA levels of IL-5 and IL-13 (p<0.05).Conclusions: The low levels of the negative regulator of galectins in human asthma may contribute to the inflammatory response present in this disease.
