Identifying and prevention of the causes for death is important to control of the tuberculosis The aim of this study was to determinate main causes of death in tuberculosis patients in our Institute.Materials and methods: Retrospective study was conducted from 2010 to 2013year. Medical records of 22 died tuberculosis patients were analyzed. Results: 15% from all hospitalized patients with tuberculosis from 2010 to 2013 died. 69.6% were male and 30,4% with mean age 58+/- 10,3.The frequency rate for cigarette smoking, alchoholismus, diabetes, injection drug usage, as risk factors were 54,5%,22,7%,4,5% and 4,5 %, respectively. 12 deaths( 54,5%) were directly attributed to tuberculosis. Massive tuberculosis with respiratory failure, massive haemopthysis and MDR-TB were accounted as the cause of death in 75%,8,3% and 16,6%. 10(45,5%) deaths were due to comorbidites which included ,COPD, cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, cirrhosis, dementia (18,2%,31,8%, 18,2%,4,5% and 4,5% ). The median time of survival was 28 days. 77.2% of patients died during the intensive phase of the treatment.36.4% died in the first 10 days of the treatment. Those who died of massive tuberculosis had statistically significant(p< 0,001) a shorter median survival (14,9) days in comparison with group who had comorbidites ( 27days)Conclusion: This study showed that massive tuberculosis, respiratory failure haemoptysis, and comorbidities are main cases of death at tuberculosis patients.
