Abstract
To investigate the presence of previously unrecognized radiographic bronchiectasis by using High Resolution Computed Tomography(HRCT) on stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) patients. Evaluate the effect of radiographic bronchiectasis on symptoms and risk of stable COPD patients. Methods There were 347 patients enrolled in COPD database from May 2012 to April 2014. They were interviewed face-to-face in the Department of Respiration, People's Hospital of Beijing University. The investigation contained general conditions, the frequency of acute exacerbations (AE) the year before, CAT, mMRC, spirometric classification and HRCT. COPD patients were classified into two groups: COPD with bronchiectasis and COPD without bronchiectasis. Results The presence of bronchiectasis was found in 18.4% of 347subjects. History of tobacco , smoking index, FEV1% predicted value were respectively 62.5, 27.3±13.2, 48.2±26.4 in bronchiectasis group . they were lower than that of 82.0,32.6±17.6,57.9±18.8 in without bronchiectasis group, P<0.05. Cormobidities ,CAT and rate of CAT≥10 in bronchiectasis group were respectively 2.8±1.7,13.6±7.4 and 26.6%,which were higher than that of 2.3±1.5,11.3±]6.0 and 11.7% in without bronchiectasis group, P<0.05. Type D in the bronchiectasis group was 50.0%.It was significantly higher than that of 35.7% in the without bronchiectasis group, P<0.05. Conclusions COPD with bronchiectasis is associate with more cormobidities, symptoms and risks .We need pay more attention to the treatment of COPD with bronchiectasis to reduce the frequency of exacerbation, improve health status.
