Abstract
Introduction
The CAN is a questionnaire developed and validated in Spanish to assess the degree of asthma control. The asthma poorly controlled, affects the quality of life.
Objectives:
Verify that CAN scores relates differences in quality of life measured with the PAQL.
Methods
Descriptive and inferential study in asthmatic adolescents both genders, of 10 to 13 years old at schools in Andalusia. We use CAN and PAQL (self-administered version) and analyzed the data using regression techniques and inference nonparametric (Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis)
Results
We studied 401 students with asthma (180 women). Of these, 125 have controlled asthma (CAN <8) and PAQL 6.1 ± 0.8 (95% CI: 5.96 to 6.25) and 276 uncontrolled asthma CAN (8-36) and PAQL X= 4, 47 ± 1.33 (95% CI: 5.96 to 6.25). We establish three severity groups according CAN 8-17 (A, n = 154), 18-27 (B, n = 97), 28-36 (C, n = 25). We found significant differences in each group PAQL. X (A) = 5.05 ± 1.1 (CI 4.87-5.23), X (B) = 3.85 ± 1.17 (CI 3.62-4, 09), X(C) = 3.07 ± 0.99 (CI 2.66 to 3.48).
Conclusions:
The CAN is an asthma control questionnaire that discriminate differences in asthma quality of life.
