Supplementary material

To complement the published guidelines for the management of adult lower respiratory tract infections this supplementary material details the objectives of the guidelines and the manner in which they were developed. It also includes definitions, descriptive epidemiology, microbiology and risk factors pertaining to lower respiratory tract infections. Indications for the appropriate choice of antimicrobial chemotherapeutics are discussed.
